Ferrari 312T History

The 312T designed and engineered by Mauro Forghieri was unveilded to the press in late 1974 and made its debut at the South African Grand Prix on the 1st March 1975.

Powered by an evolution of the flat twelve engine now turning out over 500 BHP it marked a big departure from other Maranello engineering by Forghieris use of a transverse mounted five speed gearbox laying just ahead of the rear axle line.

Combined with the engine and gearbox, the packaging of suspension, radiators and other mechanics made for a very neat car aerodynamically and in the hands of Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni it delivered the constructors championship for Ferrari and the drivers championship for Lauda. Turly an amazing car which in many peoples minds embodies all the aspects of a classic mid 1970's Grand Prix Car.
